As one of your current elected members on the State Board of Education, Tim has worked tirelessly to improve results for our students.
During his first term on the State Board Tim has been a fierce advocate for students and families. He consistently worked to highlight areas for improvement and pushed for a greater focus on outcomes and results.

The State Board is tasked with approving the curriculum recommendations made by the NV Department of Education. Tim has consistently pressed to ensure that approved programs meet the bar for quality and rigor that our students deserve.

Tim worked closely with the NV Department of Education and other board members to develop guidance on how to best implement recommendations related to supporting language learners.

NV was recently on the verge of selecting a new high school assessment that would have put additional testing burdens on students. Tim worked with the board to design a better selection process that ultimately led to a decision that minimized the need for additional testing.

In 2017 the NV Legislature passed AB469 which moved some decision making to local CCSD schools. The law was not being fully implemented so Tim worked with his colleagues to pass regulations that improved implementation, allowing for more decisions to be made closer to the classroom.

For each major issue that has come before the State Board, Tim has advocated to ensure that the voices of our students, families, educators, and community members are heard when making important decisions that will impact our students.
